State of the Blog – June 2016

I’ve got some cool things brewing here at Plot and Theme, so I wanted to make sure I did my due diligence and let my readers know what is up and what they can expect in the near future (both of them).  I’ll detail the posts that I expect to publish, the flicks I hope to see, and a few other random ideas that are kicking around in my head.  All-in-all, June looks like it is going to be quite exciting.

First, I’ll talk about the movies I’ve already seen and hope to write about.  I’ve been dragging my feet on a few films that I saw at the end of the May and haven’t written up yet, so I want to get those out as soon as possible.   These include The Nice Guys, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Macbeth, so look for those posts in the next week.  I’ve also got some brand new films on the docket.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:  Out of the Shadows opened the June box office on top, plus I have an overall penchant for the turtles, so I went and saw that recently  My review will be mostly positive, but the film has some serious problems as well.

As for the flicks I’m planning on seeing, we’re getting started this weekend with Warcraft and The Conjuring 2.  In fact, in preparation for the horror film, I watched the original for the first time recently and I was quite impressed.  Let me know in the comments if you would like for me to review the original as well as the sequel later this week.  If I don’t get any requests, I’ll just review the new film.  Pixar jumps back into the ring in the middle of the month with Finding Dory.  For some reason that I don’t understand, I have avoided every bit of marketing and press for this film.  I didn’t really do it on purpose, it just kind of happened.  Still, I am always stoked for a new Pixar film.  And, I’ll probably end up going to see the Independence Day sequel at the end of the month.  Hopefully, it is a sequel closer to Jurassic World than Terminator:  Genisys, but I have previously documented my fears on this film.  Finally, I hope I have the opportunity to see The Neon Demon, but it probably won’t be in June, on account of its limited release.

Finally, I am working on a site redesign for Plot and Theme, as I have an opportunity to switch from my current WordPress plan to another where I can control more aspects of the website.  That plan is scheduled to lapse at the end of July, so I am working on the new look of the site on a piecewise basis.  Essentially, there won’t be major changes in my design or approach, as the heart of this website is my writing.  Hence,  my changes won’t likely be Earth-shattering, but I am certainly up for suggestions.  If there are particular functionalities or features that you would like to see in the new site, please let me know (no idea is too stupid).

Overall, my time for writing has been limited the past few months, but I feel like things are starting to rev up again and my excitement for film is on the ascent.  Thank you for your continued readership, and I hope you enjoy the immediate future of Plot and Theme and we’re lucky enough to see some cool flicks this month.  As always, I welcome any feedback, suggestions for reviews/essays, and overall comments and encourage you to share the pieces that make you the most happy.
